I was reading.... The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. I got about three quarters of the way through and gave up. I got the general gist of the book but I found it to be pretentious and unnecessarily wordy. At times (well most of the time actually) the book was like reading a foreign language. Now I believe im a strong reader I always have been, Ive never had trouble reading even when I was very little I was 3 years ahead in my reading compared to the rest of my classmates but I could barely understand this book. Maybe im just thick.
I just about "got" what he was going on about. And the bits that I got and tried did work, so Im not dont completely write this book off and go ahead and try it maybe youll "get" it... I didnt. Shame really because its got amazing reviews on amazon and is in its top bestsellers in the self-help section but I just found that the basic help was hidden in a mumbo jumbo of long words. He repeated things over and over again just in different ways, each chapter seemed to repeat what the previous one had already told you and at times he was down-right bossy in his way of communicating with his reader. I just didnt like it and thought in the end, hell, lifes too short to be reading a book im not enjoying.
So I put it down and picked up my next book.....
Now Im not sure if Ive already mentioned before but Im really interested in the country of Tibet and always been fascinated with fantasy of a mythical area of Tibet called Shangri-La. It doesn't exist but this book is about something that in Tibet remained in myth and mystery until only very recently.....a waterfall....a big one.....a very very very big one!
This book shares the story of the early explorers and adventurers in the turn of the century who tried to find the mystery waterfall. In Tibet is a river called the Yarlung Tsangpo and it drains glaciar waters in the himalayan mountains through gorges until it eventually runs into the Brahmaputra in India. The river drops thousands of feet between the beginning of its journey to its end. In one small area, remote and believed to be the area the mythical Shangri-la is to be found is what has been called the "Everest" of waterfalls.
Ive read about a quarter of the book so far and its fascinating! Ive read into it on the internet and it seems that up until a few years back and I mean only a few years back no actual photograph of this falls has even been taken. It was taken by an expedition of expert kayakers who eventually found it. Previous kayaking attempts by Japanese and Western expeditions failed and lost lives. The Chinese had taken a satelite image of it but not a photograph aparently.
Well Ill let you know how this book turns out but its really interesting.
....go out with my camera this weekend if I can. I like taking photographs and what with my new memory card I can snap away to my hearts content but I havent taken a shot. The light is so bad this time of year.
I feel so tired today, I keep yawning so Ive just gone and bought a bottle of Lucozade. Boy its sticky stuff! but It seems to be hitting the spot. Im going to have a lovely relaxing night in tonight. Ive got tons of tv I want to catch up on and I have a Loreena Mckennitt DVD to watch as well. I bought her new winter album the deluxe box set which came with an additional DVD of the tour she did last year and also a few cardboard xmas tree docorations (which are naff, im sorry but they are). I dont think the extra money I spent buying the deluxe set was worth it. I was very dissapointed and the album isnt as good as the other winter collection albums. Most are the same songs again. Don't get me wrong Im a huge huge fan of Loreena Mckennitt but I was very dissapointed with this album.
.....sunshine. Its actually sunny today and not too cold either. So my colleague and I went for a lovely stroll around our work grounds catching a winters ray of sunlight. I no longer feel like a vampire. I get up and its dark, I get into work and almost light, I spend the entire day inside with no window to look out of, I go home and its dark. I only realised that I dont actually see daylight during the week at all! No wonder I feel tired and miserable.
....but I think that a lot of people are setting up vox accounts just to use them for hosting video. Have you noticed how if you go to Explore Vox/posts there are literally billions of posts one after the other from accounts that do nothing put copy and paste gibberish in small lettering to cover up the fact that all they are doing is adding video after video after video. Problem is that its blocking our genuine posts from being "explored".
Im really annoyed about it. I often like to "explore" new posts to see what people are writing about and its impossible now because every single post is pretty much fake accounts hosting video.
In my case a packet of Kettle Descaler
.....weekend I had. I think the furthest I went was to Tesco and B&Q. Oh I did get a new venetian blind (in bright pink!) for my bathroom. Haven't put it up yet (need father dearest), but when it does got up I think it will look really kawaii and cheerful. My current blind is a fabric roller blind which gets wet every time I take a shower and as you can imagine after two years is looking decidedly yucky.
Oh ive seen the most cutest wallpaper for my kitchen too.
well my apartment is 50's in age and most of my knick knacks in my kitchen are all sorta retro colours, pale blue etc. plus its always very dark in my kitchen and gets very little natural light so I want to make it as cheerful as possible. Im thinking of the two main walls in this paper and the other two walls in plain pink paper. What do we think of this?
I think it would look really cute!
On a different note Sophie-Kitten was very cuddly yesterday. Im not sure if it was because I was around much more than normal or the fact I spent most of yesterday vegging on the sofa watching back to back episodes of Star Trek Voyager on TV, but she spent it on my lap! now Sophie is not a lapcat but yesterday she was. Could it be shes getting soft in her old age..haha Anyway Voyager was good because it was the bit where Seven of Nine is introduced as a main character (I loved Seven she was great) and Kes leaves, I never really liked Kes as a character she was always a bit snobby and aloof and I still never really got what happended to her, she turned into some sort of celestial being and gave them a gift of 10 years off their journey home, and out of Borg space. Seven is now having to adapt to the fact she is not part of the collective anymore and that she has to become human and indivdual again.
......Open University Grant has come through! As you are aware (I think) I had my application sent back about three weeks ago, that was after a month had passed since it was orignally sent. They wanted clarification that the person who had signed off my documents was in fact a teacher (duh!). Well I sent it back a few weeks ago and have not heard anything. I was starting to get a bit itchy last week because Ive heard that although my course doesnt start until February they send out the course stuff in December so times ticking on.
Well I called them last week and they have confirmed over the phone that my grant has gone through also that I will be getting £255 study expenses!! yippeeeee. Just waiting for confirmation in writing now in the post. Finally I feel like things are getting back on track once again in my life.
Im getting excited and more and more nervous about this course though. Ive found some nice people via a few course forums who are proving to be really fun to chat to. Its so nice to know when you speak to these people that they are all in the same boat and all feel the same way as me.
....on diplomacy on Sid Meiers Civilisation IV and now shes bored yet again. Now Ive won its boring and I cant be bothered to play now.
Where do you want to go on your next vacation?

To be honest Id be happy going anywhere, I cant remember the last time I had a real holiday, im not talking weekends away, I mean a proper 2 week holiday somewhere. Ive only ever been abroad and I was 18 and went to Malta which was not the most thrilling of places.
Id love to go to Japan or Canada.
