I've been so lazy today. In fact this whole weekend has been pretty chillaxed. I haven't done much of anything except lay around, do a little reading, and take a nap. I did manage to get out of the house for a little bit. I headed to Walgreen's to pick up some good deals. I'm getting pretty decent at this coupon thing. I almost cut my bill in half!.
On Friday, we saw The Watchmen, which was completely disapointing. I was seriously expecting a really awesome movie and got...well...something that was hard for me to follow and too long. I really hate when movies disappoint me. I'm just glad we didn't waste the money to see it in IMAX.
Last night we went to the Lightning game (they lost again in a shootout... surprise, surprise). If we go to the games, we usually buy the cheap nosebleed seats for $8, but we saw an awesome special for lower level tickets in the paper and decided to take advantage of it. We got super close seats right behind the goal for $20 with our student ID's. Technically, I'm not a student, but I still have my ID and the guy at the box office didn't even check it. We had a great time, even though they lost.
After the game we headed to a karaoke bar to meet my friends Bob, Amy, and some other people. Bob's brother is down from CT and really likes singing karaoke. He went up to sing a few times and was actually pretty good. Dave drank an entire pitcher of Guiness himself and was asking for McDonald's cheeseburgers on the way home. I had 3 beers in like 3 hours. I was still really full from the dinner we ate beforehand and wasn't really in the mood to drink. Plus, I was driving home. I did enjoy watching Amy and Bob get drunk and try to sing karaoke. Sometimes I enjoy watching people drink more than doing it myself.
I'm still planning on doing a wordpress theme and taking this blog to my own domain. I wanted to work on it this weekend, but felt totally uninspired. I keep telling myself it will get done eventually.
It's been quite the week so far. I honestly can't believe that tomorrow is Friday. This week went by so fast that I'm having trouble remembering if I did something yesterday or Tuesday.
We had our staff meeting at work to "kick off 2009" on Tuesday. It was long and for most of it I really didn't say much. I did open my mouth about wanting to do more writing. We were outsourcing any copywriting work my boss' brother, who is 23, lives in NY, and isn't reliable at all. I never really opened my mouth about the fact that I can write halfway decent and actually enjoying doing it because I didn't want to take any work away from the kid. Boss was just trying to help his kid brother out. I understand. They were actually pretty thrilled about the fact that I wanted to take this on though and when I told boss why I never said anything, he replied, "don't worry, it's not a big deal". So now I'll be doing some copywriting and SEO writing, as well as graphic and web design. I've already doen a few things and I think i'm going to enjoy it.
After work on Tuesday, my sister and I headed to the gym to work out. I lost 3 more lbs, so in total I've lost 8. In 2 weeks that's not too bad at all. Chrissy lost 20. Seriously 20. And I was with her both times she weighed herself and she's not bullshiting. She totally has the potential to kick all our asses in this competition. Thank goodness it's based on the percentage of weight lost or I'd have given up by now. Actually, I'm doing really well on this diet. I haven't snacked or eaten crappy food at all really. And I also haven't eaten out in awhile, which my wallet is fond of.
Tonight Dave and I are just taking it easy and catching up on the TiVo. We just got finished with last weeks Man vs. Wild. I was talking to my friend Chris online about how crazy this show is.
Barbara: Bear Gryllis is crazy
because he drinks his own urine
Barbara: he's in Belize
Barbara: I'm going there in March, so I should pay attention in case I get lost
yeah so you too can feast upon the mighty taste of urine(tm)
Barbara: now he's killing a snake
Barbara: with a stick
Barbara: Dave is freaking out
Barbara: he hates snakes
Barbara: he's whining like a little bitch
Chris: was it even sharp or did he just bludgeon the fuck out of it
Barbara: bludgeon
Barbara: that's how bear rolls
Chris: fuck yeah, sharp objects are for pussies
Chris: my name is BEAR and this is my show "Bludgeon the Shit Out of Nature"
Chris: when we come back from break, im going to show you how to bludgeon this log to get a fire going
Chris: then he EATS THE FIRE
Chris: he has that knife that is always stained red with the blood of the innoccent
Barbara: dude he totally started a fire like you said he would LMAO
Chris: hahahaha noooo way
Barbara: he did
Chris: fucking asshole stole my idea
Seriously, crazy dude
The tattoo fest was interesting. It was great to get to see Tom and catch up after not being in contact for close to a year. Boy has he had quite the year. Car accident that put him on medical leave for a few weeks, job fires him while on medical leave (he's taking legal action), girl friend goes crazy and maces him, then steals his car and totals it (he later finds out she had a coke addiction), sells his Harley and buys and old Jeep Cherokee, takes up surfing to get his mind off all the shit that just happened, loses the house he was in and moves to an apartment in Philly, starts a body jewelry making business, meets a roller derby chick, finds out rollergirl is sleeping with her ex still, travels all over the place with no real rhyme, reason, or expectation. God, I love this guy.
In so many ways I envy him. He had saved enough money when he was working his 9-5 to be ok for awhile and he has town homes he rents out to people so he doesn't really NEED a real job. He goes wherever he wants, whenever he wants and doesn't really have a care in the world. He has some of the most interesting friends I've ever met. I could NEVER do it though. I'd have too many panic attacks worrying about how I was going to pay bills. I need some sort of stability and I'm definitely not ballsy enough to do half of the things he's done. But being around him, and people that are like him is fun and interesting. You never know what's going to happen, where you'll be the next day, who you'll meet, where you're going or how long you're staying. It's dangerous, full of adrenaline, and I absolutely love it to some degree. I think that's why I was so attracted to him for such a long time. The idea of him is so intense. He'd also give you the shirt off his back.
Bob was definitely out of his element, but he made the best of it. I felt out of my element most of the time. Before we actually got the show, we stopped at Mema's for some Alaskan Tacos. Delicious. After we left, we heaed to the Crowbar to grab a 2-4-1 Magner's (yum), then Bob went to Starbucks to get a cappicino with 3 shots of espresso in it. He had been up all night talking to his g/f and was pretty tired.
He dropped me off back at Dave's and we spent a few hours together before going out to eat and watching the Cardinals rape the Panthers. I love rooting for the underdog.
I slept in this morning, then we went to breakfast, returned $125 worth of tile to Lowe's, looked at the cutest english bulldog puppy at Petland (not $4k cute though :( ) and now we are home watching the Eagles/Giants game. Dave is a giants fan. I'm an Eagles fan. It's so on.
There are certain people in my life I can always count on. I can almost always count on my one friend to bail on me. It's almost impossible to keep plans with her. Something just always happens to come up. It's gotten quite annoying over the years I've known her. I've learned to deal, but in certain situations, like today, her bailing on me is pretty lame.
The tattoo convention started today and my crazy friend Tom is down from Philly selling his body jewelry and more than likely doing crazy things. I don't have many friends that are into tattoos that I hang out with on a regular basis. This one friend is one of those people, and since I have an unnecessary fear of going to places alone, even when I'm meeting up with friends, I invited her because I knew it would be her thing. She was all set to go, then bails yesterday.
So I was pretty much SOL and figured I was going to have to drive to Ybor by myself, find a place to park, walk the streets alone, and meet up with Tom once I got there. Then I remembered my other friend...the reliable last resort. This is horrible to say, but anytime I have plans with other people and they bail, or I'm just really bored and want to get out of the house, I call him as my last resort. He's usually down for hanging out and we always have fun.
So reluctantly I asked him what he was doing this afternoon and he said nothing and that he'd go. I felt bad because I knew he's not into tattoos, piercings, or any part of this culture. He even said he'd drive cause he works in Ybor and would get free parking. I told him I'd pay his way in. We should have fun. He's laid back and has met Tom before andwon't make an ass out of himself. Thank god for reliable friends.
To officially start my diet, I was going to have to buy some food. One thing I've realized--food that is good for you can be a lot more expensive than crappy food. So I clipped coupons-lots of them. For some reason yesterdays paper had a ridiculous amount and Dave had some left over from last weeks paper. I made my list and went shopping after work buying almost everything with a coupon. I got lots of fruits, veggies, and healthy snacks and I've been drinking nothing but water and unsweet tea to try and eliminate unnecessary sugar.
I''ve also started doing this cardio dance workout routine that my sister bought on dvd a few months ago but hasn't opened. It's fun and surprisingly a lot harder than I had imagined. I used to take dance glasses in elementary and middle school. Once I got to high school, we didn't have a dance team, so I was going to try out for cheerleading, but decided to do color guard instead. Dancing is such a full body workout and it's fun! I'm glad I'm getting back into it.
In other news, everyone around me is getting sick. Dave was complaining that his throat hurt last night and said he went home early from work. When I came home today from work, Chrissy was laying on the couch and sounded half dead. I really hope I can hold off the germs because I do not want to get sick again.
In other, other news, my crazy friend from Philly, Tom is supposed to be driving to Tampa this weekend for the tattoo fest. I've always wanted to go to this because I have a strange attraction to people with excessive tattoos and piercings. I have 3 tattoos and 10 piercings currently. I'd get more, but right now I'm trying to focus on being responsible and paying bills instead. I don't even think Tom has a tattoo, but he has the most wicked scarification on his back that I have ever seen. If you don't know what scarification is, google it and be prepared.
It's Neil and Sara's last day here. It will be sad to see them go. We've done quite a bit in the past few days, most of which involved lots of food. My stomach isn't thanking me. Sorry stomach. I'll start really getting into my diet once they leave and I settle back into my work routine. I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but my family is all participating in a biggest loser competition. Whoever loses the highest percentage of weight wins. We had to do it this way in order to make it fair for me because I'm the littlest in the group. I'm still going to kick all their butts though.
We had a great New Years. Lots of food, lots of drinks. I'd post pictures, but I left my camera in my moms car. It was a really fun time though, I promise. We went running yesterday, then chilled, went for a walk, and ate bbq. Later that night I took Neil and Sara to their first college basketball game, where USF got stomped by Syracuse. It was fun though.
I'm not sure what we are doing today. Their plane leaves at 5:30, so we have a good chunk of time. It's been a fun few days.
I've been kind of dreading writing this. I did so much in the last week that was awesome. The end of the year so fat has been amazing and I know it's only going to be better because Neil and Sara are on their way! I can't wait to see my BFF! Instead of me trying to remember in detail all the things that happened last week, here's a recap of some of the cool stuff:
Christmas Eve: We went to Dave's parents house for dinner. I ate lots of fish, drank wine, and tried octopus (which surprisingly wasn't bad) I also ate a lot of cookies and deserts, like usual. We exchanged gifts. Dave's parents got me a black pearl necklace, bracelet and earrings. Much more than they had to. Dave got something close to $900 from his family a new suitcase and lots of pez. Sometimes I wish I was the only child. He's using the money to put tile in his house.
Christmas Day: Dave got me practically an entire new wardrobe for Christmas, which included a ghetto pair of apple bottom jeans and boots with da fur, lol. The jeans actually fit me nice, probably because my butt has gotten so big and those jeans are larger in that area. I also got some new dvd's and electronics. Went to my parents for breakfast and gifts. Dali and Folly played nice (actually more ignored each other). We headed to my grandparents for dinner. My grandmother annoys me to no end. All she ever does is complain. I seriously got some shitty grandparents on both sides. I got more gifts. We ate way too much food. Once we got back to Dave's I passed out.
Day after Christmas: Went to Ice! at Gaylord Palms. everywhere in Orlando was ridiculously busy. Went to the outlets for a little bit, Friendly's and Ikea. I got a colander, dish towels, and a knife sharpener for $13. That was my big purchase of the day. Ended up finishing "Are You There, Vodka, It's Me Chelsea" by Chelsea Handler. Totally hilarious. Not sure if I liked that one or "My Horizontal Life" better. One of my other goals for after graduation was to read some actual books that didn't involve design or coding. I already read 2!
Saturday: We slept in, went to breakfast then Lowe's to look at tile. Got home and I cleaned the cars. Went to the Lightning game where they actually won! Witnessed a crazy accident on the way home and ended up pulling over to call 9-1-1. Luckily everyone was ok.
Sunday: Went to breakfast again, then to Home Depot to look at more tile. I hung out with Jenn most of the afternoon. We got mani's and pedi's, bought her a new phone, and went to spend her $50 Macy's gift card. Went to dinner and a movie (Yes Man) with Dave at night.
Monday: Back to work. Got a call from Rebecca at career services about possible freelance for a real estate lady. Called her today and told her I couldn't do the site because I signed a contract with ACF, but she should definitley give us a call. We'll see what happens, but hopefully this lady will call us because it would look so awesome if I brought a client in.
I have to go back to work soon. It's been pretty hard for me to concentrate because I'm so excited that Neil and Sara are going to be here soon! I'm surprised I've gotten anything done, but I actually did quite a bit. I just really want it to be 6:00 so we can get this party started though.
I've had quite the week and it has worn we out. My feet are really sore and I'm thinking bed is the best place for me.
I really wanted to go out last night and blow off some steam. Dave went Orlando to see Dragonforce so I had no one to hang out with. I had planned to go dive hopping with Corrie and try to find a new shitty bar we could go to since our former shitty bar decided to start charging $5-$10 cover every night and got rid of all their gimmicks. She told me yesterday though that she had to go to a housewarming party and wasn't going to be able to make it. It wasn't a big deal really because I figured i would just call Jenn since she said she wanted to hang out. So after working 9:30-8 I called Jenn and got no answer. I left a message figuring she'd call back, then called Julie. Julie said she was looking to get out of the house too, so we made plans to go get a few drinks at O'Briens. I started getting ready and Julie calls me to ask if we could make it Sunday instead (no, I have to work early Sun) She must've ate something bad and wasn't feeling good all of the sudden. She apologized and said she'd make it up to me. I was ok with it, but bummed because I wanted to hang out. I tried calling Jenn again and epic fail. I texted Bob and asked him if anything was going on. He said he was supposed to go to Ybor for a concert, but everyone canceled on him. We were pretty much in the same situation. I asked him if he wanted to go grab a few beers. He said yes and he'd meet me at O'Briens. Calls me like 5 minutes later to say that he just talked to Amy Z and she said O'Brien's has closed down (NOOOOO!!!) So we decided t ocheck out this bar in the new mall that they built in Wesley Chapel. I texted Jason on the way because since he is a regular at O'Briens I knew he could confirm or deny this rumor.
me: I heard a rumor that O'Briens closed. True?
Jason; no, and who is this?
I guess that is what happens when you get a boyfriend and stop hanging out at the local Irish Pub every week.
I meet Bob at The Brass Tap. It is packed. And not with annoying college kids, which is a plus. They had about 50 beers on draft. Stuff you apparently can only find in Germany (according to Bob). They had about 1000 other beers. Any kind of beer you could ask for. For me, this is amazing because I'm a beer girl. We ordered 3 drinks. we talked about the new low gas prices, the economy, Guatemala and Belize, and our significant others. It was fun and much needed. I went home and slept in my own bed for the first time in like 2 weeks. I literally can't even remember the last time I slept in it. my bed is 1000000x better than Dave's. I slept great.
I woke up early this morning. I set my alarm for 8:45 and woke up at 8. I called Dave and he was up. we went to breakfast and I went to work for the day. we were busy again, but not as bad at saturday. My feet were killing me by the end of the day though. I couldn't wait to go home. Went to Dave's and headed to Wal Mart because he needed groceries. We went shopping and I picked up Mackenzie's Hannah Montana she wanted for her birthday (finally) We got home, made tacos, ate and now I'm here writing this and talking to Rambo about school and Thanksgiving.
Speaking of Thanksgiving...this year will be the first yeat I won't be with MY family. Dave's family is in from Portgual, so we're heading down to Sarasota to spend the day with them at his parents. The thought of having 2 Thanksgiving dinners made us both want to vomit and the drive is just 2 insane. (they live 2 hours apart) we did it Easter and were exhausted by like 7pm. So we decided to spend Thanksgiving with his family since they came a long way and it might be the last Thanksgiving we will spend together (his grandparents are 87 and 85). They'll all be speaking Portguese and I won't know what they are saying so I'll automatically assume they are talking about me lol. I need to get some Rosetta Stone for sure. I already feel like I'm married.
Last night Dave, Dave, Anna, and I went to Halloween Horror Nights. I've never been before and it was good times. The haunted houses were pretty scary, the zombie one was by far the best. You could hardly see where you were going and anytime a light flashed, someone was right in my face! I'm such a chicken when it comes to haunted houses, but I love them! We got a frequent pass, so we get to go back and see the other scare zones we missed.
I was going to take more pictures, but it was really hard to see anything because of all the fog machines.
I did take some before hand
